SUMMARY


The Field Inspector works under the guidance of RCW 17.10, County policies and procedures, and the policies set by Franklin County Noxious Weed Control Board of Directors. This position conducts surveys for the presence of noxious weeds and degree of infestation, communicates landowners’ obligation to control noxious weeds, assists landowners in identification and control of noxious weeds, assists in developing management programs consistent with Weed Board goals and land use, and monitors lands to promote continued control.


EXAMPLES OF JOB DUTIES


  • Conducts surveys, and investigations as needed for presence of noxious weeds and degree of infestation.
  • Assists landowners in identification and control of noxious weeds. Records noxious weed infestations in field notes and updates relevant data using database applications.
  • Operates and maintains vehicles and spray equipment, apply herbicides, and disperse biological agents in the management of noxious weeds

  • LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS


  • An Associate Degree in agriculture, agronomy or related field AND two years of experience in vegetation control and weed identification OR any combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability to perform the job.
  • Knowledge of Washington State Weed Law as prescribed in R.C.W. 17.10.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Operator Pesticide License issued from the Washington State Department of Agriculture with designated categories within 30 days of hire.
  • Valid WA State Driver’s License with clean driving record.
  • Current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Eligibility for coverage under the County’s insurance carrier based on successful completion of a criminal history background check.
